Movies to Inspire Your Travels

Netflix and chill… it’s all fun and games until someone is struck with a serious case of wanderlust and buys a plane ticket before you’ve even opened the Maltesers.

We all know travel movies make the best movies, which is why we’re proceeding without caution to bring you this list of movies to kick start your adventuring. It could be a long night.

1. Lost in Translation

If judging by the title only, this is a film most travellers can relate to. Join Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson on an exploration of Tokyo and all of the chaos, life lessons and fresh perspectives it brings.

2. The Beach

Young Leo DiCaprio, the buzzing life of Southeast Asia and the stunning seascape of Thailand… if you haven’t seen this one yet, you better clear your Friday night schedule. A variation on the book, The Beach is a great depiction of the search for paradise and the realities you encounter along the way.

3. Into the Wild

The desire to have true adventures through nature, witnessing stunning vistas and decluttering your life by packing all of your possessions into a backpack; the story at the heart of Chris McCandless’ adventure is one that resonates with many. Follow Chris as he embarks on an epic trip through the United States in search of a simpler life and the experience of living off the land. Tissues recommended.

4. The Way

A beautiful yet heart wrenching film of a father who follows in his son’s footsteps along the Camino, The Way sees Martin Sheen discovering the allure of travel, the emotions it invokes and the warmth of companions you meet along the way.

5. Under the Tuscan Sun

Bordering on a bit too romantic to make the cut, it’s the culture and landscape of Italy that landed this one a spot on our list. Follow Diane Lane as she starts fresh in a new place and embraces all that Tuscany has to offer. Best viewed with a glass of Italian Sangiovese in hand.

6. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The landscapes alone are reason enough to add this one to your viewing list; this flick put Iceland on the map. Dreaming of leaving his job and embarking on an adventure, Walter sets off on a journey of not only physical miles but also personal growth that can only come with being forced out of your comfort zone.

7. The Motorcycle Diaries

For the history buffs and South America aficionados (and perhaps, the politically intrigued), The Motorcycle Diaries will have you traversing stunning landscapes in the footsteps of Che Guevara on his journey to becoming a revolutionary.

I have watched all these movies and they are very common travel movies listed on every blog. Was hoping to see name of some movies that aren’t listed on other blogs.
