Fitness is an important aspect of our trips and the fitter you are the more easily you will adjust and enjoy yourself. This trip has been assigned a Sweat Level of ‘Easy to Moderate’. Trips with this grading involve activities such as hiking, cycling and kayaking for several hours in duration. Depending on the activity, you may have to carry a small daypack. In preparation of the trip, we recommend you engage in aerobic exercises two or three times a week for three months prior to departure.

When To Go

Slovenia experiences a continental climate in the northeast and a sub-Mediterranean climate in the coastal regions. Temperatures are cool and mild during spring and autumn. In summer, temperatures are quite warm and often humid with the potential for summer storms.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Ljubljana

On arrival in Ljubljana you will be met at the airport and transferred to the group hostel. A trip briefing will be held by a local representative where you'll meet your fellow Yomads travellers and learn more about Slovenia, the trip and suggestions for exploring Ljubljana and its vibrant night life.

Day 2: Train to Lake Bled, afternoon rock climbing

In the morning take a train to Ljubljana-Lesce Bled. On arrival, transfer to Lake Bled where you'll have free time to explore the area before rock climbing in the afternoon at Bohinjska Bela. The evening is free for you to explore Bled at your own pace.

Day 3: Day trip to Soca Valley for canyoning and white water rafting

Today is reserved for a full day excursion to Bovec in the Soca Valley where you experience both canyoning and white water rafting on the Soca River. In the evening, return to Bled.

Day 4: Morning in Bled and the Karst region

The morning is free for you to continue exploring Bled at leisure, with options that include hiring a boat and exploring the lake and island or cycling. Later in the afternoon, take a train to the Karst region where we transfer to our next accommodation.

Day 5: Cycling the Karst region, approx. 20 kms

The unique landscape of this region lends itself to cycling. You will be provided with a bike and maps to self guide your way past vineyards and sleepy villages before returning to your hostel in the evening.

Day 6: Caving and transfer to Ljubljana

After breakfast we'll explore the Karst region underground while caving. Under the instruction of a guide who will carry the necessary equipment for the day, you will experience the thrill of exploring a cave the way the explorers did; without the benefit of platforms and rails. In the afternoon, transfer to Ljubljana by train.

Day 7: Trip ends Ljubljana

After breakfast the trip concludes and you are free to continue your journey on your own. For those headed to the airport, a transfer can be arranged.

The itinerary should be seen as a guide only. This itinerary may change at any time due to inclement weather, forces of nature and other circumstances beyond our control. Prices valid up to 30/9/2017. For trips departing after this date, the price will likely increase subject to local inflationary pressures on operational costs.



The Sweat Level

  • Easy to Moderate
Easy – these are pretty relaxed and are suitable for most fitness levels. Expect though to push a little outside of your comfort zone with the included activities, but they are not for lengthy durations.

Moderate - these will include cycling, walking, kayaking and other activities which will put a sweat on the brow. You should do some pre trip training like going to the gym, jogging, brisk walking or cycling at least 3 times weekly for months before you go to get your fitness level up.

Hardcore - these will include sustained walking or cycling over multiple days and that means you’ll need to get into a great fitness regime before your trip. The best preparation you can do is day walks or cycle trips one a fortnight that build your endurance fitness coupled with some hour long ‘cardio’ workouts up to 3 times a week, and continue this for 3 months before departure.
