The Sweat Level

EASY

Fitness is an important aspect of our trips, and the fitter you are the more easily you will adjust and enjoy yourself. This trip has been assigned a Sweat Level of ‘Easy’. Trips with this grading are fairly relaxed and suitable for most fitness levels. In preparation of the trip, we recommend you exercise once or twice a week for two to three months prior to departure.

When To Go

Namibia and Botswana can be visited year round, although the weather varies by season. While the climate is generally a dry climate, there is a rainy season from December to April. Rain is rare in the dry season of May to November. Summer temperatures from December to March can reach up to 45°C while April to June sees more modest temperatures. Winter temperatures from June to September can reach as low as -5°C, making it crucial to pack accordingly. Wildlife spotting is a highlight, especially in September and October, when the Okavango Delta is in full bloom and daytime temperatures average 30°C.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Windhoek

Arriving in Windhoek, make your own way to the hotel where the afternoon is free for you to explore Namibia’s capital city. A trip briefing will be held in the evening where you’ll meet your guide and fellow Yomads travellers and learn more about the trip.

Day 2 & 3: Sesriem, Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert

Departing Windhoek, we travel to our first campsite located on the edge of the Namib Desert, the perfect place for sunset walks in the dunes surrounding our camp. We’ll spend a day exploring the desert, stopping in the dune belt to witness the changing colours of the world’s highest sand dunes, before undertaking a walk to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei and a hike through the Sesriem Canyon.

Day 4: To Walvis Bay and Swakopmund

Heading north we reach the coast at Walvis Bay to enjoy lunch while viewing the many flamingos feeding before arriving in Swakopmund to spend time exploring the German colonial town. The evening is free for you to soak up the atmosphere of the local restaurants and bars.

Day 5: Free day in Swakopmund

Swakopmund is all about the adrenaline where adventures like quad biking and sandboarding can be found in every direction. The day is yours to discover what the town has to offer at your own pace.

Day 6 & 7: Etosha National Park

We enter Etosha via the Anderson Gate, travelling through the park to our camp. One of the most important reserves and game sanctuaries in Africa, Etosha is home to thousands of wild animals including blue wildebeest, springbok, zebra, kudu, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, lion, and elephants. We will embark on game drives in the morning and afternoons, and in the evenings, visit floodlit waterholes that attract an abundance of local creatures.

Day 8: Okavango River

Today we enter the Caprivi Strip where our camp is set amongst the lush vegetation overlooking the Okavango River. The evening is free for you to explore the area and to enjoy the sunset over the water.

Day 9: Kwando River

Continuing through the Caprivi Strip we enter Bwa Bwata National Park (also known as the Caprivi Game Reserve), stopping to visit traditional Caprivi villages along the way. Tonight, we settle into camp on the banks of the Kwando River.

Day 10: Chobe River

Crossing into Botswana we travel into Chobe National Park, setting up camp on the banks of the Chobe River. Famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets, and an abundance of wildlife, Chobe has many optional activities on offer including game drives and cruises on the Chobe River.

Day 11: Victoria Falls

Today we cross the Zimbabwean border to Victoria Falls, without a doubt one of the greatest and most spectacular sights in Africa. The day is spent at leisure allowing you to explore what the adrenaline capital of Africa has to offer, such as white water rafting and visits to the Falls.

Day 12: Trip concludes Victoria Falls

The trip concludes after breakfast, leaving you free to continue your adventure on your own. For those heading home, we’ll transfer to the Victoria Falls airport.

The Sweat Level

  • Easy
Easy – these are pretty relaxed and are suitable for most fitness levels. Expect though to push a little outside of your comfort zone with the included activities, but they are not for lengthy durations.

Moderate - these will include cycling, walking, kayaking and other activities which will put a sweat on the brow. You should do some pre trip training like going to the gym, jogging, brisk walking or cycling at least 3 times weekly for months before you go to get your fitness level up.

Hardcore - these will include sustained walking or cycling over multiple days and that means you’ll need to get into a great fitness regime before your trip. The best preparation you can do is day walks or cycle trips one a fortnight that build your endurance fitness coupled with some hour long ‘cardio’ workouts up to 3 times a week, and continue this for 3 months before departure.
